Madison - Gov. Jim Doyle on Tuesday ordered state regulators to not enforce the minimum markup law for ethanol blends of gasoline. He said the law artificially raises the cost of ethanol-blended fuels compared with petroleum-only fuel. After its 51-cent per gallon federal subsidy, ethanol is selling at the wholesale level for $1.37 per gallon - almost half the $2.60 per gallon price of petroleum, Doyle said.
