EPA shows 30% drop in release of toxics

The Post-Tribune - Northwest Indiana polluters released 30 percent less toxics in 2008 compared to the year before, according to a Post-Tribune analysis of preliminary data from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The decrease may be due to production slow-downs at local industries.  Overall, businesses in Lake and Porter counties released nearly 36.7 million pounds of toxics in 2008 — 15.8 million pounds less than in 2007.
