Chinese company taps heat from fertilizer production

China is said to be both the largest producer and market for phosphate fertilizers. Qinghuan Wu, chairman and chief executive of China Energy Recovery, said "it is becoming crucial for fertilizer producers to include waste heat recovery systems in their facilities," also as the Chinese government enacts more regulations to protect the environment and save energy.

China Energy Recovery Inc. has successfully built two waste heat recovery systems costing $1.42 million for Hubei Yangfeng Group, a China-based phosphate fertilizer producer.

Energy recovery is a process of recovering vast amounts of wasted energy, usually heat from hot exhaust gases or high-pressure steam, and converting it into usable heat energy or electricity.

Generating 120 tons of steam per hour, the system is expected to generate 24 megawatts of electricity. It will help Yangfeng save up to 57,100 tons of coal and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by up to 151,700 tons every year.
