Cured meat tied to more COPD hospitalizations.

Among people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, those who eat a lot of cured meats are more likely to end up in the hospital a second time, Spanish researchers have found. While there is still no final answer on cause-and-effect, nitrites used as a preservative in the meats might be a culprit, says the study leader.
