Milwaukee Journal Sentinel: Sugar and hyperactivity? Please, not again….

Doctors columns usually fall outside The Tracker’s target area, but this is a useful one, even though the topic is hardly one involving mortality, pain, or other physical misery. But it takes a long time to knock down a myth. The Journal Sentinel’s Dr. Paul Norton takes on the idea that sugar makes lots of kids run wild. Hyperactive, their parents say, and it’s those darned sweets. “He went to a birthday party and he’s just crazy now with all that cake!” Not so, says the good doctor, and it’s a public service to say so again and again. This one caught The Tracker’s eye just because efforts to squelch the belief in parents of my acquaintance have not had one iota of impact. They give you that look that says, “I know my kids and you don’t.”
