Is there vapor-intrusion in your new development?
Vapors' impact on development addressed
"...homes that are built adjacent to a contaminated field run the risk of dealing with some of its effects," Heitzer said. "Obviously, the DNR feels strongly about this issue, and that's why they're bringing in [Blayne Hartman] as a speaker at the event."
"It's not something that's limited to cities or urban areas, either wherever there's contamination, there are risks."
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is teaming with the southeast Wisconsin chapter of the Federation of Environmental Technologists Inc. to host Vapor Intrusion Consultant's Day, a daylong seminar on how to understand and assess the vapor-intrusion pathway, at Midway Brookfield.
The event will include an overview of the vapor-intrusion risk pathway, a discussion of the Environmental Protection Agency's vapor-intrusion guidance and discussion of various assessment methods including recommendations to streamline field efforts and save costs.
"This is something for contractors and business people as well as consultants and engineers because they're going to be there answering the questions that the DNR is going to be asking when it comes to developing on these sites," said Bob Heitzer, secretary of FET's southeast chapter.
