National Ocean Policy Regional Listening Session

National Ocean Council Strategic Action PlanOn July 19, 2010, President Obama announced his commitment to implementing the first National Policy for the Stewardship of the Ocean, Our Coasts, and the Great Lakes. The National Ocean Council is now developing Strategic Action Plans to achieve nine national priority objectives that address some of the most pressing challenges facing these areas.

These nine national priority objectives include:
  1. Ecosystem-based management
  2. Coastal and marine spatial planning
  3. Inform decisions and improve understanding
  4. Better coordinate and support Federal, State, tribal, and local and regional management
  5. Resiliency and adaptation to climate change and ocean acidification
  6. Regional ecosystem protection and restoration
  7. Water quality and sustainable practices on land
  8. Changing conditions in the Arctic
  9. Ocean, coastal, and Great Lakes observations, mapping, and infrastructure Final Recommendations of the Interagency Ocean Policy Task Force

The National Ocean Council will host regional public listening sessions about these efforts and thereby provide opportunities for public input and comments as it develops the Strategic Action Plans.


GREAT LAKES REGIONAL LISTENING SESSION
Monday, June 13, 2011 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. CDT (Chicago time)

The listening session will begin with a plenary session that will provide a general overview of the Strategic Action Plan outlines. The plenary will be followed by two concurrent breakout sessions where in-person and webinar participants will be able to provide comments or ask questions about the outlines. Interested parties may also participate in the listening session via a webinar. 
There will be three webinars; one for the opening plenary session and a general overview of the Strategic Action Plan outlines. This will be followed by two concurrent webinars that will provide participants with an opportunity to comment on the Strategic Action Plan outlines.
