Webinar with the Ministry of Government and Consumer Services: Complying with Ontario's Consumer Protection Laws
Date: Oct 20, 2015
1:30 - 2:30 PM EST
This consumer protection webinar, presented by the Ministry of Government and Consumer Services in collaboration with the Retail Council of Canada, will feature an introduction to the Consumer Protection Act, which has been in force since 2005. The Act places a number of obligations on you as a business, including the requirements for making certain types of agreements, as well, as general standards involving fairly representing the goods and services you sell. The law applies to almost all businesses that sell directly to consumers in Ontario, as opposed to business to business firms. The ministry has the power to enforce the Consumer Protection Act, and other consumer protection statutes, which can be done using a wide range of tools, from educational visits by the ministry's inspectors to prosecution through its legal branch. A free copy of the Business Guide, and details about the ministry's online tool, the Consumer Beware List, will be highlighted. The ministry is currently enhancing its business compliance programming. This webinar is part of that offering.
