"Mud-to-Parks: Beneficial Use of Sediment as Reclaimed Topsoil in Illinois"
Dr. John Marlin - Research Affiliate at the Illinois Sustainable Technology Center, a division of the Prairie Research Institute at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign
The beneficial reuse of sediment generated by various recreational, environmental and navigation projects is a priority with several state and federal agencies. Illinois has completed several projects using topsoil reclaimed from water bodies over the past decade. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources has funded several projects under its Mud to Parks program.
The presentation will highlight current and past projects where dredged material is being used as reclaimed topsoil including Walton Lake at Litchfield, the Fox Waterway Agency, East Peoria, Decatur, and the Chicago area. Equipment types, and issues related to planning and implementation will also be discussed.

"Powering a Clean Tomorrow: Cheap Hydrogen from Biomass"

Proton Power, Inc. (PPI) has developed a renewable energy system for producing inexpensive hydrogen on demand from biomass and waste sources. The core technology is referred to as Cellulose to Hydrogen Power (CHyP). This core technology is ideal for clean energy applications such as distributed or central-station electrical power generation, hydrogen fueling, or producing liquid fuels such as gasoline, diesel and jet fuel. Co-products are water and biochar, a highly effective soil supplement.
