VAN HORN – For those Far West Texas residents concerned about the Trans Pecos Pipeline, here's something to make your hair stand on end: an Austin firm is considering building a high-level nuclear waste storage facility near Kent on the edge of the Davis Mountains.
Last Tuesday, representatives from AFCI Texas, LLC met with Van Horn and Culberson County officials in Van Horn to discuss the possibility of the proposed storage site, The Van Horn Advocatereported.
The proposed site is about nine miles north of Kent and four miles northeast of FM 2424, the report stated. The site would provide long-term storage of spent nuclear fuel, likely from nuclear power plants from around the country.
