advocate for worker safety will be remembered

Bob D'Amato, 65, a 40-year veteran of California's occupational safety and health community, died July 31. A consultant with American Safety Institute in Long Beach, D'Amato had recently reduced his workload after having been diagnosed with heart problems, according to longtime friend Esther Santiago. He is survived by his daughter Kimberly.

"Bob was an advocate for worker safety, becoming involved in controversial safety issues for many years," Santiago says. D'Amato also was a familiar figure at Cal/OSHA Advisory Committee meetings in Los Angeles, peppering Cal/OSHA officials with questions.
At this writing, memorial services had not been announced.
