Genome work shows 180 genes tied to breast, colon cancers

More than 180 genes have links to breast and colorectal cancers, say scientists reporting the first major results from an international effort to map DNA in tumor cells. The report in the journal Science comes as colleagues work to catalog all genetic mutations that cause cells to become cancerous. Elias Zerhouni, director of the NIH, which partially financed the research, called the research "groundbreaking" and "truly remarkable."
