The Medical Association has written up a good factsheet on eating at home, with a few interesting findings - especially this one:
Children who eat at least one meal a day with their family develop more nutritious eating habits and do better at school...Mealtime encourages conversation and interaction around the dinner table, which improves a child's vocabulary and communication skills. This leads to better performance in school and fewer behavioral problems.
I admit - with three kids, it's much easier to bow to the call of the Big Mac, but we've found that home-cooked meals are not only cheaper and healthier, but it's nice to spend time around the table instead of under fluorescent lights.
