A top Milwaukee official said Tuesday that his city hasn't ruled out selling Lake Michigan water to Waukesha, but without state rules in place to regulate the sale:
"It'll be very very difficult for the Common Council to approve it," Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett's Chief of Staff Pat Curley said. "I can't stress the word 'difficult' enough."
Barrett and Milwaukee Ald. Michael Murphy, along with a coalition of conservationists and environmentalists, said in an article last week it was unlikely Waukesha's expected application to obtain Lake Michigan water would be approved on a regional level.
