Good decline in worker fatalities... not good enough

A recent report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics stated the preliminary Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries dropped to 5,071 fatal work injuries in 2008 - down from 5,657 reported in 2007.

Although there has been a decline in fatalities, Secretary Hilda L. Solis said "it does not lessen the need for strong enforcement to ensure that safety is a top priority in every workplace."

Solis affirmed that the "Department of Labor will not be satisfied until there are no workplace deaths due to failure to comply with safety rules."

Kudos Hilda!
