The plant produces enough biogas for two processing lines out of the seven lines producing Kurkure. PepsiCo India has installed a biogas plant to power fryer burners at its Frito-Lay manufacturing unit in Pune.
The gas produced will be used for the production of its snack product Kurkure. The plant commissioned in June already runs at full daily capacity.
The plant produces enough biogas for two processing lines out of the seven lines producing Kurkure. The green makeover is expected to cut down on 600 tons of carbon dioxide emissions and substitute 200 tons of liquefied petroleum gas annually.
Punekar, a local news site, reported that the plant generates 10 to 12 tons of waste daily, comprising potato peels, extra burnt chips, green potatoes.
The conversion to the biogas plant, installed at an investment of 35 million rupees ($731,300), could result in 15 million rupees in savings for PepsiCo India.
