"There was zero sign of humans, but plastic was already there."

There are just so many examples of the principle of there really being no 'away' when it comes to plastic waste.

The great state- and small country-sized floating plastic garbage patches in the Pacific and Atlantic are gaining publicity, but here's another example. In this video from the Plastic Pollution Coalition, globetrotting surfing legends Chris and Keith Malloy point out that even on the remotest beaches on the planet they've found plastic litter.
