EIA's primary report of recent energy statistics

EIA's primary report of recent energy statistics indicate that in the first 9 months of 2010:
  • U.S. primary energy production totaled 56 quadrillion Btu, a 2% increase compared with the first 9 months of 2009.  Fossil fuels accounted for 78% of primary energy production, nuclear electric power accounted for 11% of primary energy production, and renewable energy accounted for 11% of primary energy production.
  • Compared with the first 9 months of 2009, U.S. coal production decreased 1%, dry natural gas production increased 3%, and crude oil production increased 3%.
  • Compared with the first 9 months of 2009, U.S. renewable energy production increased 6%.  Wind energy production increased 27%, biomass energy production increased 10%, and hydroelectric power production decreased 5%.
