ULVAC-RIKO Inc., which manufactures and sells heat-analysis devices, announced that it has developed a highly efficient, portable, and compact three-kilowatt electricity generation system that uses hot water at only 90-degree Celsius to produce power. The system can generate a small amount of power of 3 to 12 kW using water at low temperatures of 150 degrees Celsius or less. The system is compact enough to fit into a small truck. Also, the generator runs quietly enough so that noise concerns will not be a factor in selecting installation sites. Lower-temperature heat sources, which commonly exist as factory waste heat or from hot springs, have largely been ignored up to now because existing systems needed enough heat for a generation capacity of 50 kilowatts (kW) or more, requiring high amounts of heat and expensive initial costs, including installation.
