With the national unemployment rate at 10 percent, and the very real threat of climate change, it’s a proverbial no-brainer to achieve a 75 percent recycling rate.

Increasing recycling rates will create a significant amount of jobs ... according to a report produced by a coalition of labor and environmental groups. Titled More Jobs, Less Pollution the report looks at both the Base Case Scenario which represents a business-as-usual approach, and the Green Economy Scenario which achieves a 75 percent reduction in municipal solid waste (MSW) and construction and debris (C&D) by 2030.

Under the Green Economy Scenario, 2.3 million jobs are created, almost twice as many as projected in the 2030 Base Case Scenario, and about 2.7 times as many jobs as existed in 2008....
