Illinois will be ringing in the New Year by making it illegal to discard e-waste into the trash. Beginning Jan. 1, all electronics recycling of keyboards, portable music devices, scanners, video game consoles, DVD players and other items will be mandatory in the state. The mandatory change is the result of the state's Electronic Products Recycling and Reuse Act. The law expands a 2008 measure which prohibited computers, monitors, televisions and printers from landfills.
