Solar Frontier Co., a subsidiary of Showa Shell Sekiyu Co. of Japan, announced on January 18, 2012, that it will supply up to 150 megawatts of CIS solar modules to one of the world's largest photovoltaic power plants, which will be built in Kern County, California.
Solar Frontier scheduled to supply modules for the Catalina Renewable Energy Project, which is being developed by enXco, a subsidiary of a French electric utility group, EDF. This project will be constructed in two phases with plans to go into full commercial by June 2013.
Having commenced operation of its third production plant in Miyazaki in July 2011, the company has achieved a module production of 980 megawatts per year. Its capability of producing nearly a gigawatt of solar modules per year and the high generation performance of its CIS solar cells have enabled the company to meet the needs of the project.
