Vertical urban agriculture aquaponic Farm & Retail Store Grows Mushrooms and Herbs

Whether it is a meat-packing plant turned massive vertical farm or ahydroponic community garden in the middle of an airport terminal, there is no shortage of high-tech visions that reimagine the way we grow and distribute food.

This planned Berlin aquaponic farm even incorporates that green architecture favorite of reused shipping containers in its structure.

It's not the only one.

Ben Greene of the Farmery in Raleigh, NC, is currently fundraising on Kickstarter to build a combined hydroponic farm, mushroom growing space and food retail outlet from—you guessed it—reused shipping containers. It all looks quite lovely, and they have prototypes in place to prove it can be done.
