DuPont, the largest U.S. chemical maker by market value, received a federal judge's approval to settle class-action lawsuits that its Imprelis weed killer ruined trees at thousands of homes and golf courses across the country, according to the company's website.
Brookfield and Elm Grove officials said that no public property was treated with Imprelis, but some homeowners who use a professional lawn service were affected.
Last year, 63 homeowners in Waukesha County filed claims alleging that Imprelis was applied to their lawns and damaged or killed their trees.
"I had a few homeowners contact me and tell me that their evergreens were destroyed," said Gary Majeskie, parks and forestry superintendent for the city of Brookfield. "Those homeowners did say that they received settlements of an undisclosed amount."
