Outpost Natural Foods says it will take Palermo pizza products off the shelves of its stores because of serious safety citations the company has received from federal officials in connection with an accident in which a worker lost three fingers.
Earlier this month, the Occupational Health and Safety Administration issued the safety violations against Palermo's after an accident in which a 21-year-old Burmese man lost three fingers while working at the Menomonee Valley plant.
The discontinuance of Palermo products from Outpost's three stores is being taken in line with the store's new local/regional vendor code of conduct that the company has adopted, said Margaret Mittelstadt, director of community relations for Outpost.
The code outlined on the store's website deals with working conditions, safety, and compliance with state and federal laws for its local and regional vendors.
