TPR - Stimulus outsourcing: Foreign countries eye big bucks in high speed rail
The Chinese want in on the state's fledgling high-speed rail project. They're eager to help bankroll and build the system and, eventually, provide the trains to operate on the tracks. China's not alone. Eight nations have agreements with the California High-Speed Rail Authority to share information about high-speed rail -- and each wants a piece of California's business.
"Other countries want to be a part of this because they know high-speed rail can be profitable," said Jeffrey Barker, the authority's deputy executive director. "Their ultimate interest is operating the system." Read on at Sacramento Bee
RE: "high-speed rail can be profitable"
The idea of taxing the poor and working class to subsidize luxury rides for the wealthy is called tyranny.
Our nation was built on rail that provided jobs and transportation FOR the poor and working class.
Through three generations - my father, grandfather and I use to jump trains in Sheboygan, WI with either a token or a "hobo invite".
The MASSIVE problem with the proposed "HighSpeed Rail for the Rich" is that it can't provide affordable rides for individuals who can't afford transportation and it is really hard to jump on a 120mph train ;-)
